Hi! I'm Fred Ruppel, your instructor. You may have seen my homepage on your way here. I'll be re-building this site weekly as the semester goes on. You'll be able to view and download the class syllabus (no excuses for ever losing it now!), plus I'll provide you with links to some interesting sites. The main reason for setting up this homepage, though, is to put your assignments online -- in case you miss class one week.
Many of the following links will take you to a file that was built using either WordPerfect (*.wpd) or MSWord (*.doc) software. When you click on the link, you will not see the file contents directly. Instead, your browser will typically prompt you to either open the file or to save the file to your diskette/hard drive. You should SAVE the file -- to your diskette if you are on a "public" computer or to your hard drive if you are on your own computer. Then open your word processer (typically MSWord or WordPerfect). Finally, click FILE, OPEN and locate and open the file which you had earlier saved.
Obviously, word processing software (WordPerfect,
MSWord, etc.) must be loaded onto the receiving machine for you to access
the file. Most software packages can read other formats IF CONVERSION
SOFTWARE IS LOADED WITH THE PACKAGE. Many software packages do not
automatically load conversion software -- you have to specifically request
it when you are prompted to do so (you'll get a message like "Cannot read
this format. Would you like to be able to read this format?".
If you click YES, you will be prompted to load the CD that you used when
you originally loaded the software. Then it will take 10-15 seconds
to load the conversion software. See a lab manager for assistance.
You can always call the EKU Help Desk (859-622-3000) for assistance.
