Suggested Audition Material for
Undergraduate Saxophone Majors and
Minors
What to prepare:
- major scales through four sharps
and four flats (minimum) and a chromatic
scale. These scales should be performed
from memory and should include the
full range of the horn.
- solo and/or etude material of
contrasting style and tempi to demonstrate
tone, musicianship, and technical
development. The pieces do not need
to be memorized.
- a short piece will be provided
for you to demonstrate your sight-
reading skills.
- (optional) a solo, etude, or transcription
in a jazz style.
- (optional) an improvised solo
over blues, "rhythm changes," or
other standard chord progression.
