Larry Nelson Work Samples

Larry Nelson is currently Adjunct Professor of Saxophone at Eastern Kentucky University, teaching applied lessons and directing the EKU Saxophone Quartet and Saxophobia, the university's jazz saxophone ensemble. He also teaches courses in jazz improvisation, symphonic literature, and American popular music. In addition, Larry teaches music history courses at the University of Kentucky.

Composition/Arranging:
- New Kid in Town, part 3 of Sweet for Joel, for 5 saxophones and rhythm. It was recorded by University of Kentucky's Mega-Sax on their second CD Stinkin' Up the Place, available on the Seabreeze Vista label. All three movements are available through Walrus Publishing. - The Star-Spangled Banner, arranged for saxophone quartet; recorded by the Osland Saxophone Quartet on their CD Kentucky Roastup, available on the Seabreeze Jazz label. The arrangement is published by Walrus Publishing. (Larry also plays baritone saxophone on the recording.)
Saxophone:
- Concertino for Saxophone Quartet by Marcel Poot- Performed live by the Osland Saxophone Quartet at Tanglewood, Summer 2001. Larry Nelson plays Baritone Saxophone with the Osland Saxophone Quartet.
Acoustic and Electric Bass:
- Track 360 by Duke Ellington, as recorded by the Kentucky Jazz Repertory Orchestra on their CD Ellington Celebration, available on the Seabreeze Jazz label.
- Jack the Bear by Duke Ellington. This track was recorded by the Kentucky Jazz Repertory Orchestra but not released (so far, anyway). Larry Nelson recreates the Jimmy Blanton solo.
