Developing Quality Online Courses at EKU
By Implementing the IDC's Quality Assurance Standards
The Instructional Development Center (IDC) and the Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) will support 8 faculty members in a Professional Learning Community (PLC) beginning in January 2010. This PLC will focus on developing quality online courses at EKU using the Quality Assurance standards. The PLC sessions will be conducted by Fred Kolloff and Paula Jones of the IDC.
The PLC will meet on the following dates and times during the spring 2010 term:
1. Friday, January 22 from 11:30am -1:30pm
2. Friday, February 5 from 11:30am -1:30pm
3. Friday, February 26 from 11:30am -1:30pm
4. Friday, March 26 from 11:30am -1:30pm
5. Friday, April 16 from 11:30am -1:30pm
6. Friday, April 30 from 11:30am -1:30pm
In this quality assuance program faculty members will participate in a self-review and then a peer review process of their online course using nationally recognized standards for online teaching and learning. The online courses would then be revised, as needed, to achieve or exceed these standards by the end of the spring term.
PLC participants will receive a $500 stipend upon completion of the final review of the online course and their summary journal by the IDC. Participants will be expected to participate in a TLC presentation with the IDC in spring 2010.
Faculty members who have or are currently teaching an online course, where 85%-100% of the course is offered online, should apply. Applications can be accessed through the link provided below. Send your application to
