The faculty members of the Department of English and
Theatre are pleased to recognize the accomplishments of their
outstanding students through a number of awards and scholarships.
Exceptional students are rewarded for their academic achievements,
leadership, and contributions to the English and Theatre Programs
at the Writing Awards Banquet, held each year in April. Descriptions
of the awards and scholarships are below. If you have any questions,

Outstanding
Senior Award
This award honors a graduating senior who has demonstrated outstanding
scholarship, leadership, and promise. Any senior English or Theatre
major who will graduate in May, August, or December 2007 with
a minimum grade point average of 3.0 is eligible to apply. The
winner will receive a $300 cash award. Use any of the links at

Philip
H. Mankin Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is presented to a junior English major who has
demonstrated high academic achievement and a love for language
and literature. Any English major who currently has between 60-89
credit hours and a grade point average of 3.25 or higher is eligible
to apply. The winner receives a $600 scholarship. Use any of the

Sigma
Tau Delta Award
The EKU chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the international English
Honor Society, recognizes each year the senior English major with
the highest academic average.

John
M. Long Endowed Humanities Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a full-time student majoring in
the humanities—English/theatre, foreign languages, history,
speech communication, philosophy, or religion. Any student who
can demonstrate scholarly accomplishments and potential and who
has a minimum grade point average of 3.0 is eligible to apply.
Recipients may also apply for a second or third year’s award.
The winner receives a $500 scholarship. Use

EKU
Theatre Scholarship
This scholarship is available to any declared theatre major. The
amount of the award ranges from $100 to $800 and will be applied
to the next academic year's tuition and fees. Recipients are expected
to participate actively in the EKU Theatre program. Send a letter
of application and current theatre resume´ to the EKU Theatre
Coordinator, Campbell 306.

Pearl
Buchanan Freshman Scholarship
Available only to an incoming freshman theatre major, the $100
award is applied to tuition and fees. This scholarship can be
linked with an EKU Theatre Scholarship to increase the financial
assistance. Send a letter of application and current theatre resume´
to EKU Theatre Coordinator, Campbell 306.
