I. Course Objective: The History and Sociology of Rock Music provides a systematic survey of Rock Music and the confluence of sociological, economic, and political parameters central to its evolution.

II. Attendance Policy: Attendance is required. Courses which meet once per week cannot permit absenteeism. It is your responsibility to obtain lecture notes from a classmate if you need to be absent. I will gladly provide handouts and other materials given out during your absence.

III. Course Requirements:

    1. Weekly reading of the required text Rockin' In Time (sic) A Social History of Rock-And-Roll by David P. Szatmary.
    2. Other assigned readings as left on reserve at the University of Kentucky Fine Arts Library.
    3. Listening Assignments on Reserve at the University of Kentucky Fine Arts Library.

IV. Grading Policy:

    1. Mid-Term 30 points
    2. Final 30 points
    3. Quizzez (4@5pts) 20 points
    4. Research Paper 10 points
    5. Participation 10 points

V. Additional Responsibilities:

        1. The instructor reserves the right to amend this syllabus as necessary due to time constraints, technological problems, or, to cover specific areas more thoroughly.

VI. Plagiarism will not be tolerated. You must cite your sources completely and accurately. Several manuals, including the Chicago Manual of Style, are available and include examples.
