DESIGN YOUR OWN BUMPER STICKER

Goal: For you to create a bumper sticker promoting physical activity followed by a descriptive article explaining your work.

Directions:

This project is simple: a bumper sticker. The message is simpler: get active. We all know how good exercise is for us, but unfortunately, we tend to ignore it. For this project you are being asked to promote a message by designing a bumper sticker that makes a statement about the importance of being physically active. Your bumper sticker will be judged and voted on by the teachers here at the school. The winning student will have his or her work created and sold as fundraising activity for our physical education program during our open house.

          1. Using the attached template, design your bumper sticker. Your bumper sticker should be bold in design, and be easy to read from 3-6 feet away. Be sure to use bold colors and only limited wording. You bumper sticker must be appropriate, remember the winning bumper sticker will be sold and this will represent our school and what our physical education program stands for. When you have finished, cut your bumper sticker and put your name on the back along with your teacher’s name.

          2. On the attached piece of paper, write a persuasive essay about your message. The essay must include an explanation of the theme expressed by the bumper sticker, reason for its importance, and why we should pick your bumper sticker to sell for our fundraising efforts. Included in your persuasive essay, provide one health statistic that supports your message. Be sure to cite the website, magazine, or book where you found your statistic both in text and at the end of the essay. Statistics can be found at http://www.cdc.gov/, http://www.nig.gov/, http://www.americanheart.org/, or by typing in a search engine the key words statistic + the health issue you are addressing. If you need help with your citations please see me or our librarian.
