FLOWER STRUCTURES
It probably will help if you work in small groups, instead of working alone. Use the dissecting microscopes and dissecting needles.
Examine the flowers on display. For each flower, determine the following:
• symmetry of the flower (radial or bilateral)
• number of sepals
• number of petals
• number of stamens
• ovary position (consult the PowerPoint slides)
• number of carpels
• number of stigmas
• also be able to identify pedicel, bracts, and ovules
How can you tell which flowers are monocots and which flowers are dicots?
If more than two species are available, arrange
all the flowers you examined in a sequence from simplest to most
complex.
